Part two in our series on the top ways to grow your following on Pinyadda (click here for #10-#6):
5. Share to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
Sharing to your social network from Pinyadda is a great, subtle way to introduce Pinyadda to your connections on those networks. Here are some examples of ways to share from Pinyadda to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn:
- Pin an article or great discussion from Pinyadda that your networks would be interested in. You could even include a message like, “Check out this great discussion you should weigh-in on!”
- Boast your badges and your Maven and Ambassadors spots by visiting your profile and clicking the images.
- Recommend a great site by visiting the sites profile and clicking the big, blue “Share this site” button. You can even customize the message, like “I’m following PSFK.com on Pinyadda to stay on top of trends and I think you should too!”
4. Link it up
Put a link to your profile on Pinyadda in places like your blog, email signature, Google profile, Facebook profile, Twitter bio, LinkedIn profile or status and encourage people to follow you. Since you’re an early adopter in the Pinyadda community, you’ll likely be hit up with questions about what Pinyadda is all about.
Tip: You can customize and create a unique URL for your Pinyadda profile by visiting the Account tab in your settings.
3. Follow a power user
Power users are actively engaged and considered community leaders on Pinyadda. Pinning articles to them or joining in discussions they’re in makes them more apt to follow you and help connect you with other people in the community. They’re also some of the best people to learn from in terms of how to use Pinyadda, as they’ve established a following and in many cases have developed niche personas in the community. Here are ways to discover power users on Pinyadda:
- Visit someone’s profile (here’s mine): Yadda Points, badges earned, site Ambassador and topic Maven slots held, and the number of followers someone has are key indications of a power user.
- Open the weekly yaddaletter (sent Tuesdays – here’s an example): Each week we boast the top 25 users on the site according to their yadda points earned in the prior week.
- Follow the Pinyadda blog: Check out featured users we spotlight in “no user left behind” interviews, Maven & Ambassador digests (Mondays), and badge earners (Fridays).
- Visit the badge directory: To find topic and site specific people, check out all the people who have earned particular badges (simply click on the individual badge image). For example, if I want to know who’s really into Boston startups, I clicked the BeIn – Alpha Company badge to see everyone who has unlocked that badge.
- Visit site pages: Have a favorite site and want to follow people who are really into that content, too? Visit the site’s page, like this one for BostInnovation, and you’ll see the current Ambassador(s). If I site doesn’t yet have an Ambassador, you’re likely next!
2. Follow new people who share your interests
Visit the Newsstand on Pinyadda to find people who are interested in the topics you’re into. Either use the category dropdown to see a listing of people in the community, or simply browse topic categories to view top users.
1. Earn spots as a topic Maven or site Ambassador
Maven and Ambassadors are promoted heavily so other members of the community know power users and can easily identify people with similar interests. So, earning these coveted spots are the best ways to boost your visibility within the Pinyadda community.
Tip: For those of you unfamiliar with the points and badge system on Pinyadda, by pinning and discussing articles on topics you’re into or from your favorite sites, you compete with users to earn featured spots as the Maven of a topic or the Ambassador of a site.
