Top 10 VMA Celebs in the Press, Before & After [DATA]

Last night’s Video Music Awards brought all sorts of celebrities out to the red–I mean white–carpet, from the cast of Jersey Shore to the Jackass crew to Lady Gaga’s pals in the US Marines. Between all the wardrobe changes and performances, tweet volumes of the hottest celebs flashed across the stage screen, adding some extra entertainment and competition to the night. We were curious to compare top celeb tweet mentions to their mentions across top online news and blog outlets.

To see what celebrities were getting the most buzz the week prior to the VMAs, we dove into our index and pulled all the articles with “VMA” in their headlines. From there we parsed names of the top 10 most mentioned celebrities:

No User Left Behind: Ted Gott

I use Pinyadda because it serves me news that’s of interest to me in a much quicker and easier way. I was constantly sharing news and links with friends via email, but Pinyadda provides a much better forum and experience.”

This week in no user left behind we’re happy to spotlight a newer user, Ted Gott. Ted heard about Pinyadda from his friends, and since says he’s been “addicted.” Ted works in strategy and analytics for Digitas, the cutting edge digital advertising agency, but fancies himself, and I quote, “a Pinyadda renaissance man.” Read: you’ll find Ted pinning everything from cool science articles to business strategy articles to sports briefs to viral videos. Ted also wanted to let me know that Pinyadda has made him realize that National Public Radio actually produces articles (despite their, quote, “droning radio presence”), so expect to see him posting their articles, too! Here’s why Ted has become so addicted to Pinyadda:

August Political News Data – Hot Issues, Top Pundits

With the November 2010 elections quickly approaching, we wanted to take a snapshot of what was buzzing in political news during the tail end of summer. We mined the political articles and sites and blogs in the Pinyadda index and constructed three graphs displaying the top issues, names and terms mentioned by political party in August.

Most mentioned issues

Taxes are the leading discussed issue in the news across both parties. Government and government related issues are most mentioned with conservative tagged news. Likely due to the overturning of Proposal 8 in California in the beginning of August, marriage was the fifth most mentioned issues in conservative tagged news. For liberal tagged news, the war and societal issues including immigration, health and jobs rounded out the top five most mentioned issues in the press.
