August Political News Data – Hot Issues, Top Pundits

With the November 2010 elections quickly approaching, we wanted to take a snapshot of what was buzzing in political news during the tail end of summer. We mined the political articles and sites and blogs in the Pinyadda index and constructed three graphs displaying the top issues, names and terms mentioned by political party in August.

Most mentioned issues

Taxes are the leading discussed issue in the news across both parties. Government and government related issues are most mentioned with conservative tagged news. Likely due to the overturning of Proposal 8 in California in the beginning of August, marriage was the fifth most mentioned issues in conservative tagged news. For liberal tagged news, the war and societal issues including immigration, health and jobs rounded out the top five most mentioned issues in the press.

With less than two months before the November 2010 elections, we wanted to make sure Pinyadda was packed with content related to all the top issues people are following. I wanted to make sure I found a recent poll about what issues the American public thinks are most important in the upcoming elections.
